“The first car driven by a child born today could be powered by hydrogen and pollution-free” George W. Bush (2003)

We live in a society where every day we are damaging the world we live in by the overuse of precious fossil fuels such as coal and oil that will eventually run out.

The burning of fossil fuels has become common practice for providing energy and for powering our transport system.  However, with the damage it causes to our planet, attention has been recently turned to green technology including the development of the hydrogen powered vehicles.

Hydrogen does not occur naturally so it is not an energy source but an energy carrier.  Many major automotive companies including Ford, Hyundai and Honda have sought to develop mobile technologies dependent on hydrogen in order to mitigate harmful carbon dioxide release from combustion.  It is believed to be the ultimate clean fuel with nothing coming out the exhaust pipe other than water vapour!

Green energy is big business.  In 2003, the United States Government allocated $1.2billion to hydrogen-fuelled technology development and in 2008 Honda created the first production line built hydrogen fuel cell vehicle; the FCX Clarity.  Since then hydrogen fuelled buses are even seen on the busy streets of London.

Last year according to Honda, hydrogen fuel cell technology is seen as ‘a better long term bet than batteries and plug-in vehicles’.

Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are the future!
